Learning

Our Key Learning Areas

Our KLAs (Key Learning Areas)

We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.

English

At Taren Point Public School, students develop a strong foundation in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Our English programs focus on building confident communicators who can express ideas clearly and creatively. Through rich literature, purposeful writing, and explicit teaching of spelling and grammar, students grow as critical and imaginative thinkers.

Maths

Our mathematics program encourages curiosity, logical thinking, and problem-solving. Students explore mathematical concepts through hands-on experiences that connect to the real world. From early number sense to advanced reasoning, our lessons build deep understanding and confidence in using mathematics every day.

Science & Technology

Students are inspired to ask questions, experiment, and innovate. Through engaging inquiry-based learning, they explore the natural and built world, developing scientific thinking and digital skills. With access to modern technology and STEM-focused activities, our learners become curious investigators and creative problem-solvers.

Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE)

In HSIE, students explore history, geography, culture, and community. They learn about people, places, and environments—both in Australia and around the world. Our programs build an understanding of the past, an appreciation of cultural diversity, and a sense of responsibility as active global citizens.

Creative Arts

Our students express themselves through music, drama, dance, and visual arts. From class performances to whole-school celebrations, creativity is nurtured and celebrated. Through the arts, students gain confidence, imagination, and a deeper appreciation of culture and self-expression.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)

We promote healthy, active, and positive lifestyles. Our PDHPE program develops students’ physical skills, resilience, teamwork, and understanding of wellbeing. Through sport, health education, and physical activity, we encourage every student to lead a balanced and active life.

Languages-French Immersion Program

Taren Point Public School is proud to offer a unique French Immersion Program, where students learn the French language while exploring global cultures. This program enhances cognitive development, builds confidence, and fosters a genuine appreciation of language learning and international perspectives.

What students learn

Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.

Religion and ethics

At our school, students can take part in special religious education (SRE) for Protestant/Anglican, Catholic and Greek Orthodox religion.

When enrolling your child, you’ll be able to choose an option from the approved providers offered at our school. Students not attending SRE or SEE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities.

High potential and gifted education

At Taren Point Public School, we recognise, nurture, and extend the talents of all students — including those demonstrating high potential in the intellectual, creative, social–emotional, and physical domains.

Our High Potential and Gifted Education approach focuses on identifying and supporting students who show advanced capacity or rapid learning progress. We provide targeted learning experiences that challenge and engage students at their point of need, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.

Through differentiated classroom practices, enrichment projects, leadership opportunities, and participation in extension programs, students are inspired to strive for personal excellence. We work closely with families to ensure that every student is supported to reach their potential and to foster a culture where talent is recognised, valued, and developed across all areas of school life.
